Aristide hails from Gridania, having been born and raised in a long line of healers and herbalists under the tutelage of E-Sumi-Yan. He took an early interest in the healing and arcane arts, following in his older brothers’ and father’s examples. His father, and eldest brother of 15 years, Jeoffent, were Conjurers, while his second eldest brother of 10 years, Ivoux, had left home from Gridania and had studied as an Arcanist in La Noscea. His mother Aveanne stays in Gridania. She is an accomplished Botanist with the Guild, and sells potions and remedies in the marketplace as well as training incoming aspiring botanists and adventurers traveling to and from the city. Aris learned much from her as a child, having sat in the back of the shop a lot while she worked and his father and older brothers were about their duties.
When the Garlean invasion began, he was only 12yo. As the Garleans pushed across the map, his father and brothers were called to the field increasingly, and Aris buried his nose in books and studied under E-Sumi-Yan as well as spending summers at the Observatorium in Coerthas. He was nearing the completion of his novice training at the age of 15 when Louisiox invoked the Twelve against the descent of Dalamud’s Moon during the 7th Umbral Calamity, and Aris assisted the guild in aiding a great many injured in Gridania and the surrounding areas in the aftermath. He was in Gridania when Bahamut’s fury rained down upon the Twelveswood, striking terror through the Elezen city as the Black Shroud burned over and around them. Aris took shelter with his mother in the basement of Jeoffent’s home in Fallgourd Float, which sits in the middle of a shallow lake close to the Coerthan border and out of the way of most of the surrounding trees. Aris frequently used Jeoffent’s home as a private study, and the older Duskwight would often find a busy-bodied young Aristide wandering about Fallgourd collecting herbal samples and studying them, as well as feigning excuse just for his attention, allowing him to stay rather than sending him back through the Twelveswood at a late hour. His father and brothers had gone unaccounted for after the battle at Carteneau, causing both him and his mother to worry increasingly as more than a couple days had gone by with no word. His father and Jeoffent had been with the Adders, while Ivoux had been amongst the ranks of Maelstrom command. Aris, against the wishes and begging of his mother, left Gridania during the night, braving the wilds of the southern Coerthan wilderness, which had been damaged severely by a change in the aether, turning it into a frozen wasteland almost immediately. He paused briefly at the inn at Mor Dhona, continuing his travels to Carteneau’s battlefield himself and searched amongst the rubble and ruin, turning over any body and stone he came across, finding nothing of his missing family. He had found out from another Sergeant with the Adders he recognized, who was still amongst the living at the fields, that his father and Jeoffent had perished during the battle, and was ordered to return to Gridania. Being but a very young, and very small Elezen, even for his age, Aris was able to hide until cover of dark again, and continued searching the fields until dawn rose, still looking for Ivoux. It was then that he was discovered and removed forcibly by Maelstrom command, who were surveying the field and retrieving more injured, and brought to Limsa Lominsa. The same Sergeant from Maelstrom Command questioned him on his objectives, and Aris was then given the opportunity to search among the injured in the tents outside of Limsa Lominsa, for his brother Ivoux. Aris located Ivoux in one of the medic tents, near death and with grievous wounds to his body, still in his Maelstrom uniform.
Ivoux openly wept, despite his injuries, when he saw a dirt and dust covered young Aris standing there with him; Aris, in his upset, tried desperately to heal him, casting healing spells recklessly one after the other, pulling from his own aether stores and exhausting himself, causing him to collapse from the exertion. The last thing he remembered was someone pulling him away and holding him before he collapsed. When Aris awoke, Ivoux had finally passed, and Aris went into a state of shock, and sat, unmoving, for hours while his brother’s body was prepared for transport back home to Gridania. It wasn’t until a young Au’ri male, his head still bleeding slightly from a loosely bandaged wound, approached him and inquired about his wellbeing. The Au’ra revealed then that he had caught Aris earlier and held him when he had collapsed, having borne witness to what had happened. Aris initially scoffed about the Au’ri male’s own state before he dissolved into a full mental breakdown. The Au’ra pulled him into a tight hug while Aris cried angrily and cursed everything before collapsing from the exertion again.
When he woke up, he was still in the outpost, laying on a cot this time, and the Au’ra, whose name he now learned was Kaine Daemon, not only had fresh bandages, but had stayed next to him while he rested. It was from there that their friendship formed, and Aris learned that Kaine’s father had also died during the attacks on the city prior to Dalamud’s fall, when Garlean troops under the command of Nael Van Darnus had attempted a sneak attack on Limsa while everyone was occupied at Carteneau. Kaine had been injured after being pushed out of the way of a crumbling building that would have otherwise killed him, his father taking the blow instead. He then got buried under some rubble as Bahamut’s rage rained down on the city once Dalamud’s Moon fell and opened upon the battlefield. After burying Kaine’s father, and ensuring his mother and sister would be okay, they both traveled together back to Aris’s home in Gridania, where Aris delivered the news of his father and brothers to his mother, and the proper funeral rites were prepared. Kaine began learning better, more advanced skills at the Lancers guild, sending money home regularly and visiting as often as he could, while Aris continued his studies. The two became very fast, close friends, and for a short time, even lovers for a time, before parting ways. One year later, in the 4th year of the 7th Umbral Era, Hydaelyn would reveal herself to both of them, and call Kaine to become one of her chosen Warriors of Light.
Aris had continued his travels to the Observatory tower in Coerthas and studied Eorzean history and arcane arts for that entire interim year, determined to be an adept caster and healer. He buried his nose in mountains of tomes and books and archives while the bitter cold surrounded the research tower, sitting by a fire for hours, taking endless notes. He would regularly travel back to Gridania to visit his mother, now his only surviving relative. Jeoffent’s small hut at Fallgourd Float now served as his private home and place of study. During the middle of the night, Aris had fallen asleep at his desk, and he experienced the strangest dream, in which he floated before a gigantic crystal of light that identified itself as Hydaelyn, and he was given a gift, and a request from her - the gift of heightened aetheric channeling and manipulation, and the request to aid those named the Warriors of Light.
Kaine had been away for some time, and had returned to Gridania to the Lancer’s guild a fortnight following this event, cautiously seeking Aristide out for counsel. The two had not spoken in well over a year after having fallen out as lovers, and Aris had shut himself off completely despite Kaine’s best efforts; Kaine had given up briefly and returned to Limsa for a time, working alongside Maelstrom troops. He revealed to Aris that he had a vision while on his most recent mission, in which he then recounted the same exact dream Aris had experienced, only his given gift was the ability to see into others’ minds and hearts, as well as enhanced strength and tempering, and the request to defend the star as the Warrior of Light. Aris was beside himself with this news, but likewise told him about his encounter with Hydaelyn, her gift, and her request. He had already found that her gift to him gave him a great enhancement to his casting and healing capabilities, enabling him to greater pull aether not just from the environment around him, but also directly from other living beings, and that he no longer needed to use a tool to cast as well (for example, he could just touch a wound and channel the surrounding aether to it, or cast fire on something just by pointing at it). After a lot of conversation, and reconnecting the pieces of their friendship, Aris made the decision to follow Kaine on his newfound mission as the Warrior of Light, and not just by the request from Hydaelyn either, but out of a desire to ensure his safety, and to see his journey through (he took a very strong “nobody will heal him better than I can, damnit” stance). One thing Aris chose to never reveal until much later in their journey (well into Heavensward in fact), was that a month before the vision, he had been given scholarship to Sharlayan, and had in fact been preparing to leave soon. His chosen goal in life after the Calamity happened, had been to study and become an Archon, traveling the world in the name of scholarship. He supposed the adventuring itself would take care of the latter half at least.Notes
Post EW, Aris retired permanently from adventuring, choosing to stay in Sharlayan and continue his long postponed scholarship, which was still recognized by the Forum. He presented his thesis on Aetherical Conduction Methods of the Natural and Unnatural Nature, and became an Archon, receiving the tattoos on his neck, just like the majority of other Scions have. He is initially plagued by trauma, nightmares and fevers for a short time following the events in Endwalker, having endured severe injury after the final battle. While at the Dead Ends, he used his own body as a conduit for the Lifestream (the biggest of no-no’s) in order to bring the Warriors of Light back from death after the final confrontations with the Endsinger and Zenos, their bodies having been returned by Meteion to the Ragnarok deck in a bloodied and torn apart state. In a moment of pure panic, seeing Kaine, Emoni, and the other Warriors of Light accompanying them, laying there lifeless and covered in blood, the other Scions also trying their best to seal what wounds they could, Aris’s mind broke and he tapped into the arcane, utilizing the full extent he knew his Echo gift could reach, and more, calling directly into the Aetherial Sea, into the Lifestream itself. Aristide had taken many notes from the forbidden tomes of the Gubal Library, and called one aptly named Cry of the Ancients, to which Y’shtola, the only other one on board who knew what it was he was doing, stood in shock, and tried to bring him out of the trance-like state he entered. Y’shtola’s encounter with the Lifestream had never used her so directly, but had still come at the cost of her vision, and for Thancred, to never be able to channel aether naturally again. The process wrecked Aris’s body, depleting his natural aether almost entirely, leaving nothing but a whisper of life in him as it returned from whence it was summoned after resurrecting the Warriors on board. Y’shtola managed to collect some of his rapidly escaping aether and return it to him, while he remained momentarily in a trance-state, speaking in the tongue of the Ancients as the Lifestream left him. He then remained in a comatic state while Krile tended to the pull on his aether for nearly two weeks while the world celebrated the defeat of the Endsinger and the end of the Final Days. Following his recovery, it was extremely difficult for him to conduct his thesis studies considering he had damaged himself so badly, and he sought to work with the Aetherochemists and researchers on developing tools to assist those with weakened sensitivities and incapabilities in using the aether around them better. The Ironworks got involved and developed a heavier and much needed clientele following his research. As a member of the now former Scions and Kaine’s party, he was given a small house to himself in Sharlayan as a personal home while he worked on his thesis. He became fast friends with Amelliance Leveilleur, having tea and luncheons with her often, and joined her in bullying her husband, to which he and Fourchenault still maintained a deep respect for one another, despite the shenanigans. Once he was recognized as an Archon, Aristide returned home to the Twelveswood, taking up a more permanent residence in Jeoffent’s old home, which he still had utilized when visiting his mother on occasion, and remained living there, traveling to and fro as needed. He no longer joined Kaine, Emoni, or the others on their travels unless by counsel, only able to assist them from afar now.
Aris has had three relationships in his life, and those include an intimate relationship between him and Kaine in their teen years between the Calamity and the beginning of ARR, and one with Thancred during ARR. He is now partnered with Emoni from STB-Current MSQ Post EW.Details regarding his relationships will be added here shortly.......
